Chuck Brown Trombonist Greg Boyer Talks Go-Go, Funk and Fried Chicken Swing [Examiner]

Andrea Jill Greenleigh – Examiner

The Washington, D.C. Metropolitan music scene has many versatile musicians, but none quite as multifaceted as trombonist Greg Boyer. Boyer began playing in the seventh grade after seeing two friends, Geoff Davis and Rusty McKeown, playing trombone. He knew he could do the same. Borrowing Davis’ trombone one night (and without Davis’ knowledge), Boyer taught himself to play. After continuing to secretly borrow instruments from the school, he eventually learned how to play every instrument in the band. “I would take [the instruments] back to school before band started,” he said. “No one ever knew!”
