The Oscars: Glenn Close spits a bit of knowledge about “Da Butt”, EU, Sugar Bear, Backyard, GoGo Music, and the DMV as a whole

During a trivia session at the Oscars, comedian Lil Rel attempts to stump legendary actress Glenn Close, testing her knowledge by getting QuestLove to spin a tune on the turntables for her to guess what it is.

Not only did Close recognize the song as being “Da Butt”, a popular hit that was introduced in Spike Lee’s movie “School Days” over 30 years ago, but she went on to give a brief history about the song. The fact that it was a GoGo song released by the Washington DC GoGo band EU (Experience Unlimited). And to take it even further, she gave a shoutout to EU’s founder and frontman Sugar Bear, the Backyard Band, and the DMV culture as a whole. And if that wasn’t enough, she got up and demonstrated the dance move to the song “Da Butt.”

Very impressive!

Now, was Glenn priorly coached and scripted the information by maybe someone such as QuestLove?  Maybe so. That’s likely to have happened. However, that’s all besides the point and it really doesn’t matter. The fact of the matter is: She gave it strong recognition on the national stage in front of a national audience. And if indeed she wasn’t aware of all this detailed information beforehand, she and that national audience definitely know it now.
