The Official Launch of The Go-Go Museum & Café

The Go-Go Museum & Cafe in Washington, D.C., officially launched its physical location on February 19, 2025, which is also the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Go-Go Music of the District of Columbia Designation Act of 2020.

The museum had a soft opening on November 18, 2024, and began offering virtual programming in 2020.

It’s located at 1920 Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE in Washington, DC.
The Go-Go Museum & Cafe is dedicated to the celebration, study, and preservation of go-go music, which is a unique style of funk music with African, Caribbean, and Latin American influences, originating in DC.

The museum’s founder, Ronald “Moe” Moten, envisioned this space as a way to preserve and celebrate Go-Go music, a cultural touchstone for Washington, D.C.

The museum offers a variety of immersive experiences, including:

  • Interactive exhibits: Explore the history of go-go through touch-screen timelines and audio-visual displays.
  • AI-powered holograms: “Talk” with virtual figures of go-go legends like Anwan “Big G” Glover of Backyard Band and Sugar Bear.
  • Live performances: Enjoy local bands on the museum’s indoor and outdoor stages.
  • Recording studio: Learn about and create go-go beats.
  • Artifacts: See memorabilia from famous go-go artists.
  • Cafe: (Opening Spring 2025) Taste dishes inspired by the cultural influences of go-go.
