The BYB Influence Rocks The BET Stage (Wale, Gucci Mane, UCB, Tre & Weensey)

If you’re going to deliver to the world some of your homegrown flavor, why not give it to them live and not just samples of it?  At least that’s the way rapper Wale brought it when he took it to the BET Hip-Hop Awards’ stage.  Instead of flavoring the stage with sprinkles of Backyard Band’s Dope Jam shots, UCB let the keyboards do the talking.  And instead of filling the air with sampled hooks of Backyard Band’s vocalist Weensey singing “Pretty Girls,” the stage was greeted by Weensey himself. I can dig it! Watch video clip below:And also… here’s some … Continue reading The BYB Influence Rocks The BET Stage (Wale, Gucci Mane, UCB, Tre & Weensey)

Redskin’s Jim Zorn Has Been Relinquished of His Play-Calling Duties

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — The Washington Redskins are taking away head coach Jim Zorn’s play-calling duties. Zorn discussed the change with executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato after Washington’s 14-6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The team plans to announce a new play caller Monday. According to Redskins spokesman Zack Bolno, Cerrato told Zorn he believes the coach had too many responsibilities and someone else should call the offensive plays. Zorn did not disagree with that assessment, Bolno said. The Redskins (2-4) have not scored more than 17 points in any game this season. On … Continue reading Redskin’s Jim Zorn Has Been Relinquished of His Play-Calling Duties

Hunger Grows in the D.C. Area

The Capital Area Food Bank serves some 700 programs across the Metropolitan area and says that while giving is up 15 percent over the last year, the need is double that. “…The food is coming in but the demand has enormously increased,” said Lynn Brantley, Capital Area Food Bank. According to census figures, the food bank estimates one in two D.C. children are at risk … Continue reading Hunger Grows in the D.C. Area

D.C. Hip-Hop: Can it Break the Hold of Go-Go?

By Chris Richards Washington Post Staff Writer Washington’s hip-hop community couldn’t have given itself a more Freudian nickname. “The DMV” stands for the District, Maryland and Virginia, but it feels like a big fat metaphor for a city that’s been waiting . . . waiting . . . waiting . . . for a national rap star to emerge. That wait officially ends on Nov. 10 with the release of Wale’s “Attention Deficit” — the oft-delayed debut album from a local rhymesmith whose degree of success could decide the future of Washington’s ready-to-burst rap scene. “I think every man has … Continue reading D.C.
