February 28th Hard Rock Cafe – where local band Cruddy Crankerz were the only black group who participated in the Battle of the Bands showcase. And to top it off, they were still able to managed to remind the audience how they were in DC by ‘sockin’em’ with some Go-Go as well.
“What I experienced,” stated vocalist C Cowan, “was a crowd of 400 all white (mostly from out of town) who tried real hard not to party with us, because they came to support our competitors. But in the end, out of 996 bands in a 100 mile radius, we made the top 6. The only reason we lost was NO GUITAR.”
