NORTH CAROLINA RADIO STATION WNCU TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THE LATE CHUCK BROWN

“The Funk Show” will stream tribute prior to 5th year anniversary of Brown’s death Durham, North Carolina: On Saturday, May 13, 2017, “The Funk Show”, heard on North Carolina Central University’s WNCU radio 90.7 FM, will broadcast a tribute to the Godfather of Go-Go, Chuck Brown from 4pm to 7pm. The broadcast will take place just 3 days prior to the 5th anniversary of Brown’s passing at age 75 on May 16, 2012. “The Funk Show'”s host, Howard Burchette, will speak with Grammy nominated recording artist Raheem Devaughn, Greg Boyer, trombonist working many years with Brown as well as Parliament Funkadelic, Maceo Parker and Prince, Charles Stephenson, author of “The Beat! Go-Go Music from Washington, D.C.” and Nekos Brown, son of Chuck Brown. The show will be streamed at http://18893.live.streamtheworld.com/WNCUFM.mp3

The 3 hour broadcast comes on the heels of vocalist/guitarist Brown’s induction into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame on October 20, 2016. Brown was born in Gaston, North Carolina, but is credited with creating Washington, D.c.’s signature percussive musical sound, Go-Go, over 5 decades ago. The program will feature a discussion on Brown’s contributions and the evolution of his music over the years, the Chuck Brown display at the Smithsonian’s African American Museum and further insight on Brown. The musical selections span Brown’s entire career from The Soul Searchers through his posthumously released “Beautiful Life” released in 2014. Stephenson promises, “This show will probably be the most comprehensive tribute to Chuck.”
