Rest In Musical Harmony, Maiesha Rashad!

We are saddened and crushed today to learn of the passing of legendary artist and Go-Go family member Maiesha Rashad, who lost her battle with stomach cancer.

Maiesha, who was most notably known in the Go-Go community for heading the Grown & Sexy trending band Maiesha & The HipHuggers, was also honorarily dubbed by all her peers in the Go-Go circuit as the “First Lady of Go-Go”.  In fact, Maiesha was actually one of my very first profile stories ever written by TMOTTGoGo almost 25 years ago… and have remained good friends ever since.

The multi-talented, singer, writer and producer who has been singing since the age of 7 and writing at age 14, started this flamboyant group in the mid-90’s when she decided to do a one-time 70s show at Takoma Station. “People enjoyed the show so much,” says Maiesha, “that I just continued the 70s theme for future gigs.”

Today, our sincere prayers and condolences go up, out and with her family, husband Brian and daughter Raina, and friends.
