The Lincoln Theatre, Home of the Go-Go Awards, Set To Close Its Doors

The Lincoln Theatre, which has been a U Street landmark (right next to Ben’s Chili Bowl) since the corridor was known as “Black Broadway,” the venue that hosted three Go-Go Awards events, as well as TMOTTGoGo’s 10 Year Anniversary (March 2007), may close its doors next week due to running out of funds.  As reported by DCist: “Earlier this year, Councilmember Vincent Orange (D-At-Large) and [Councilmember Jim] Graham, who sits on the theater’s Board of Directors, were able to secure $500,000 in funding for the Lincoln during budget negotiations. Ben’s Chili Bowl to Open in FedEx Field

It’s tough being a Washington Redskins fan these days.  So, who knows? Maybe this new edition inside of FedEx Field can help ‘syce’ up the momentum a little bit more. Yep… starting this Sunday against the Giants, Ben’s will be serving its world-famous Chili Half Smokes, Chili Dogs, and Bowls of Chili on both the Club Level and the Upper Level. Ben Ali, Founder of DC’s Ben’s Chili Bowl, Has Died

Associated Press — Ben Ali, the founder of Ben’s Chili Bowl diner, a landmark in Washington’s black business and entertainment district and a frequent stop for politicians and celebrities, has died. He was 82. Ali died of natural causes Wednesday night at his home, restaurant manager Maurice Harcum said Thursday. Ali was born in 1927 and opened the restaurant with his wife, Virginia, in an old movie house in 1958, when Dwight D. Eisenhower was president and integrating public schools.
