You can help the history and culture of Go-Go to be Added and Taught in the School Curriculum

TEACH THE BEAT (with your help)

Overall Goals:
To develop 10 standards-based, interactive and field-tested lesson units that can be used in high school social studies, language arts, amth, music, and/or DC History classes.

Scope:
Process: A project coordinator with curriculum development and teaching experience and a team of teacher consultants (practicing teachers in the disciplines listed above) will develop and field test lessons in the DC Public schools that can be shared online via www.thebeatisgogo.com

Lesson qualities: The Understanding by Design Framework and critical pedagogy will guide the development of the lessons.  In other words, the lessons will promote deep understanding, challenge stereotypes, build on student knowledge, develop new skills and knowledge, and lead to action.  The 10 lesson units will each be designed to take approximately 4 hours for use during multiple class periods.

Deliverables:
Teaching for change, a nonprofit whose mission is “building social justice starting in the classroom,” will provide 10 standards-based, interactive and field-tested lesson units on Go-Go that can be used in high school social studies, language arts, math, music, and/or local history classes.

Teaching for Change will provide a dedicated fiscal account and online donation option for donations TO TEACH THE BEAT.  Teaching for Change is a 501(c)3 organization and will provide all donors with a written confirmation of their contributions.
