Experience Unlimited (EU) – Vets Get Live on Veterans Day

On Sunday November 11,2012, Go-Go veterans Experience Unlimited came out in full force, pulled out all the artillery, and seized the LaFontaine Bleue with a dynamic live performance that set ground zero back into the safe zone.  In other words, Operation “35-Year Tribute To 5-Star General Sugar Bear” was a mission accomplished. The Lincoln Theatre, Home of the Go-Go Awards, Set To Close Its Doors

The Lincoln Theatre, which has been a U Street landmark (right next to Ben’s Chili Bowl) since the corridor was known as “Black Broadway,” the venue that hosted three Go-Go Awards events, as well as TMOTTGoGo’s 10 Year Anniversary (March 2007), may close its doors next week due to running out of funds.  As reported by DCist: “Earlier this year, Councilmember Vincent Orange (D-At-Large) and [Councilmember Jim] Graham, who sits on the theater’s Board of Directors, were able to secure $500,000 in funding for the Lincoln during budget negotiations. A City’s Candle Light Vigil Love for Little Benny [via DeeJay Rico]

On Wednesday, June 2, 2010, a special part of the Washington DC culture shared an evening with the family of Anthony “Little Benny” Harley during a candle light gathering, sharing in music and words their love and heartfelt memories of the DC Icon. During that evening, a proclimation was made by DC Mayor Adrian Fenty to make June 2 “Little Benny Day” in the Washington DC area.  As well, the funeral arrangements was noted and well be held at the Washington DC Convention Center on Friday, June 11 from 9:00am to 12:00 noon. EU “I Confess”

Riding on the success of “Da Butt,” EU, originally known as Experience Unlimited, created a dance sensation, thanks to Spike Lee’s School Daze movie.  This in turn lead to the release of the 1989 album, “Livin’ Large.”  While many songs on the lp would appeal to hardcore funk fans, it was actually the videos of songs such as “Buck Wild” and the above video clip, “I Confess” that really captured the true energetic and sometimes crazy style of their live shows.  This in turn earned them a large following in the late ’80s, as well as the ability to be … Continue reading EU “I Confess”
