Go-Go Pioneer Barboo Nate Lyles Has Passed Away

We are saddened to be reporting this morning the lost of another pioneer in this Go-Go Industry.  Barboo Nate Lyles, Trombonist of the Petworth Band has passed away early this morning. Big G Debuts As NFL Films Narrator

Anwan “Big G” Glover, of DC’s own Backyard Band, continues to make leaps in strides.  In his most recent chapter, the man also recognized by the world as Slim Charles from “The Wire” now also provides narration voice of the ESPN2 program “Hey Rookie: Welcome to the NFL”. The new season premiered on Tuesday, September 11 served as Big G’s debut as an NFL Films narrator. Violator Founder Chris Lighty Has Passed Away at the Age of 44

Longtime Hip Hop executive Chris Lighty has died.  The New York Daily News has confirmed that Chris Lighty was found dead at his apartment in Bronx, New York this morning at 11:30 am EST. He was shot in the head in what arriving officers reported was self-inflicted. Police officials also told the newspaper that Lighty was newly divorced. Lighty was integral to the careers of 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, N.O.R.E., Diamond D, and many others. Take a trip from now on to Ben’s Chili Bowl, and painted right on the side of the building, you’re going to catch the latest mural from artist Aniekan Udofia. Although this mural is the 5th mural to be created this summer through the Murals DC program,  this particular one celebrates some of Ben’s famous patrons: Barack Obama, Bill Cosby, Donnie Simpson, and the late Chuck Brown.  Aniekan, along with some help from apprentices, hopes to have this one completed by by this Tuesday, August 28th.
