DC Schools 9/11 Victims Honored by Day of Service

BY KAREN GRAY HOUSTON/myfoxdc WASHINGTON – Ten years later, DC public schools are still living with the loss of three students and three teachers on September 11th. Two National Geographic Society staffers also died on the plane that crashed into the Pentagon. They were in route to a science field trip to Los Angeles. All were honored and remembered Sunday by some 2200 George Washington University freshmen students as part of a National Day of Service. WMATA Identifies Metrobus Driver Who Shoved Passenger From Bus

On Friday, City Paper reported that Metro officials have identified the Metrobus driver who was filmed shoving a passenger from his bus in a video that surfaced last week. Metro isn’t releasing the driver’s name, and it’s unclear whether criminal charges have been filed against him. Chuck Brown, Duke Ellington and John Philip Sousa Honored at the US Capitol

The celebrations continues to flow for the godfather Chuck Brown, as he joined the National Symphony Orchestra for its annual Labor Day weekend concert on the Capitol lawn. The NSO Pops hosted the “Legends of Washington Music” concert on Sunday evening, which celebrate the music of the nation’s capital with tunes by DC natives John Philip Sousa, Duke Ellington, and Chuck Brown. This free concert was on the Capitol’s west lawn.  And along with Chuck’s performances were Duke Ellington’s granddaughter, Mercedes Ellington, who also performed with the orchestra during a section devoted to Ellington’s jazz. Rest In Paradise, McKinley “Bug” Williams (of Maze)

We remember Vocalist/Percussionist McKinley “Bug” Williams, an original member of Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. A man from the band that kept DC in the groove for over 30 years.  Not to mention my personal Number #1 Favorite Band of All Time. Williams passed away September 3, 2011 due to a heart attack. He was with Frankie Beverly as the group went through several transitions, including their days as “Raw Soul” and the group’s mentoring by the late Marvin Gaye.
