For the first time in his long career, Chuck Brown is a Grammy nominee.  Chuck, who was both surprised and happy about the nomination, talked about it briefly while at the Reeves Center attending a Christmas toy drive for HIV families. The song nominated is the single “Love”, in which the 74 year old Go-Go legend shared a duet with soulful songtress Jill Scott, from his recent album release “We Got This”. Chuck Baby Catches The Attention of the Wall Street Journal / NPR

THE GODFATHER OF GO-GO By Jim Fusilli – Wall Street Journal Go-go music’s lack of broad appeal seems to boil down to the perception that it can draw a violent crowd: Promoters would rather steer clear of it, and as a result a wide audience hasn’t been nurtured. That’s a shame, because go-go music, at least when Mr. Brown serves it up, is an undeniably infectious strand of dance music with the potential to draw in fans of old-school R&B, hip-hop and ’70s jazz funk. Put Mr. Brown on stage at a festival like Bonnaroo or Glastonbury and he’d come … Continue reading Chuck Baby Catches The Attention of the Wall Street Journal / NPR

Thievery Corporation feat. Chuck Brown: “The Numbers Game”

Talk about being slept on… good googa mooga!! You probably wouldn’t think that Electronica and Go-Go would go together, but the Thievery Corporation and Chuck Brown did just that. But the Godfather of Go-Go and the DJ duo teamed up for a track entitled “The Numbers Game” from a Thievery Corp’s album called Radio Retaliation, that sounds like it came off of the soundtrack to a ’70s Blaxploitation flick with its wah … Continue reading Thievery Corporation feat.
