DC Library Seek Items For Chuck Brown Archive

The D.C. Public Library is working to build a collection honoring “The Godfather of Go-Go”, Chuck Brown. The library says it’s looking for posters, photographs, ticket stubs, videos or audio recordings of Brown and other go-go musicians. The library is also interested in letters that describe attending a concert. Chief Librarian Ginnie Cooper says Brown’s contribution to the District should be honored like the Washington legacies of John Philip Sousa and Duke Ellington. She says the archive will tell Brown’s story and of the go-go style he created. It’ll also look at his impact on American music. Mayor Vincent Gray … Continue reading DC Library Seek Items For Chuck Brown Archive

A Chuck Brown Mural – How Sweet It Is!

National artist Charles Jean-Pierre, who also happens to be a teacher at Macfarland Middle School, felt that there needed to be some type of acknowledgement for Chuck Brown’s influence on the community — including his ability to bring the community together. The art teacher says that after traveling all across the country and noting murals in cities like Chicago and Philadelphia, he thought it was only befitting to pay homage to the “Godfather of Go-Go” — in a 18-foot high mural. With the help of James Flowers, his partner and dean of Macfarland Middle School, Jean-Pierre organized some of his … Continue reading A Chuck Brown Mural – How Sweet It Is!

Chuck Brown. The Life. The Legacy. The Love

The name Chuck Brown might not mean a whole lot to people outside the Washington DC area, and that would be their lost. In DC, Brown is widely known, even revered, as The Godfather of Go-Go. Born in August of 1936, Charles Lewis Brown, affectionally known as Chuck Brown, was born to the late Lila Louis Brown and Albert Lewis Moody in Gaston, North Carolina. Although he grew up very poor, Chuck was a spiritual of joy. At age 7, he learned to play piano in church. From ages 11 to 13, Chuck was a preacher.  In addition, he made … Continue reading Chuck Brown. The Life. The Legacy. The Love

Interview Session with Chuck Brown [circ. May 2007]

I was moved to dig into the TMOTTGoGo archives crates and pull out an audio session of an interview the we had done with Chuck Brown. I just merely wanted to sit and listen to it. After listening to all the wealth of knowledge and history shared in this interview, I thought to myself, “Why not?” Why not share this audio session so that others (who may not have heard it before) would get a chance to listen it as well. And therefore, I decided to share it here. Now, just breaking it down to exactly what was going on … Continue reading Interview Session with Chuck Brown [circ. May 2007]

How To Submit Your Music For Consideration Into Rotation on TMOTTRadio

TMOTTRadio is always open to helping introduce listeners to material. It is no doubt one of our central missions, and we welcome independent artists, especially from the Go-Go genre, to submit their music or comedy for possible inclusion on TMOTTRadio. We have a deep respect for artists and their work, and so we take the responsibility of curating TMOTTRadio’s collection very seriously. We see an enormous, and always growing, number of submissions, and the task of selection is made even harder by the limits on our capacity for adding new content. The Basics: How to Submit Please keep in mind … Continue reading How To Submit Your Music For Consideration Into Rotation on TMOTTRadio

Tupac’s Hologram: A Vision of Dr. Dre

By Gil Kaufman/MTV Tupac’s hologram appearance at the Coachella music festival on Sunday night still has minds reeling. The West Coast hip-hop legend was just about the only thing that could’ve topped an already hefty set from Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg with special guests Eminem, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Warren G and Wiz Khalifa. And according to the company responsible for the hologram, it was all Dr. Dre’s idea. The resurrection of ‘Pac, who was murdered in 1996, would have been a face-melting surprise had word about the stunt not leaked out just a few days before the set. But … Continue reading Tupac’s Hologram: A Vision of Dr. Dre
