Big Tigger & WPGC Agree To Part Ways. Free On The Outs As Well

In a surprise move, CBS radio’s WPGC Washington, D.C., has fired morning man Big Tigger. He wrote on his Twitter page, saying: “FYI @WPGC & I have agreed 2 part ways. The BigTiggerMorningShow W/ Free is no more! Thanx 4 ya support & stay tuned! Now Back 2 my Bday:) RT,” noting that the event took place on his birthday. It looks like side-kick Free is also on the outs. Tigger took over the morning show in 2010, after longtime morning man Donnie Simpson was forced into retirement. Tigger previously handled afternoon drive on the station. Tigger is also a … Continue reading Big Tigger & WPGC Agree To Part Ways. Free On The Outs As Well

ReFAMILIARization

As a fan present for the birth of 911, holding on tight through the evolution that would gradually transform into Familiar Faces, refamiliarzation is not a challenge for me, the band has always stayed ahead of the curve, effortlessly. For almost ten years I spent my late nights and early mornings, happy hours, birthdays and meet and greets in constant refamiliarization.  From Bud’s Nightclub to Safari Steakhouse and Zanzibar, from the Tradewinds to the Heart & Soul Café, I still can’t hold back singing the real words to “911” even when the radio spins the clean version. I could do … Continue reading ReFAMILIARization

Panhandlers: To Give or Not to Give?

Pulling up to the 7-11 for a quick Slurpee fix, I eye Dude in the Red Shirt, sitting on a milk crate as he prepares  to pounce on me with some type of line once I get out of my car.  One hand smoking a cigarette, the other hand grasping a cup, foot tapping to the new Junkyard I’m blasting, he seems capable of gainful employment to me.  But what do I know?  Not able to judge him or his circumstances, I’m still not giving him no money. I have long been turned off by panhandlers, particularly the ones that … Continue reading Panhandlers: To Give or Not to Give?

Rare Essence / Sylver Logan Sharp – “Real Brothers” [Audio]

It always seems to frustrate me sometimes when a person says that Go-Go bands need to create more originals, when I know for a fact that many of them do. So whenever I’m asked that question, my response is always, “Yea.  Many of them do.”  The question I cannot answer is why many people have never heard them.  This is why I got ‘syced’ and a little frustrated when I came across this particular tune here. This song “Real Brothers” recorded by Rare Essence and DC’s own Sylver Logan Sharp is a prime example.  Personally, I have only heard this … Continue reading Rare Essence / Sylver Logan Sharp – “Real Brothers” [Audio]

Guess Who’s Back? CCB… Back on the Scene Like a Record Machine!

Remember the go-go single, “Classy”?  What about, “My Phatty’?  Well how about that cranking go-go version of the Jay-Z / Linkin Park hit, “Encore”?  Of course you do.   I’m referring to hits from the Critical Condition Band – otherwise known as CCB. Well CCB, those crankin young brothers and sister who brought you their freshmen release of “Critical Condition Band” and then followed it up with “Diversity,” have come a long way, from being on top, to falling apart and breaking up the band. As they put it, they are back on mission to now only bring your their hits from … Continue reading Guess Who’s Back? CCB… Back on the Scene Like a Record Machine!

With 3 mixtapes released since August, and another All-GoGo live freestyle dropping this week (entitled “Wire To Wire”), Killa Cal has got to be one of the most watched, and possibly sought after, figures in the DMV right about now. When not performing with his camp, he can be found just about everywhere… leaving no stone unturned.  Currently in stores now, Cal can be found featured on the releases of Suttle Thoughts Plaza 23 Anniversary, as well as the Rare … Continue reading Looks Like Killa Cal is Gonna Be Around For Quite A While

Farewell Heavy D – We’ve Got Nuthin But Love For Ya

Grace Baptist Church filled to capacity with mourners on Friday for the homegoing service of Legendary Hip-Hop Artist/Actor Over-weight Lover Dwight “Heavy D” Myers.  Among those in attendance were Will Smith & Jada Pinkett-Smith, Queen Latifah, Jay-Z, John Legend, Sean Combs, Usher, and Johnny Gill, delivered a powerful performance of “Never Would Have Made It.” It was apparent that Heavy D, who at the age of 44, died on November 8 due to complications from pneumonia, touched so many over the years through his powerful and positive music, lyrics and showmanship.  As he was remembered by family and friends through … Continue reading Farewell Heavy D – We’ve Got Nuthin But Love For Ya

Chris Tucker & Ice Cube In Talks for ANOTHER ‘Friday’

via TMZ… Chris Tucker has been in serious talks with Ice Cube about reprising his role as SMOKEYYYYY … so says the guy who played DeBo in the “Friday” series. Tiny Lister was chillin’ last night outside Pueblo Viejo in Hollywood — when the scariest man in Hollywood told TMZ … Tucker flew him out on his private jet recently to discuss the possibility of getting the ORIGINAL “Friday” crew back together. FYI — Tucker shot into superstardom playing pot-obsessed Smokey in the original “Friday” back in 1995 … and then refused to appear in any of the sequels, citing … Continue reading Chris Tucker & Ice Cube In Talks for ANOTHER ‘Friday’
